Two people are dead following a collision south of Villeneuve, one of many crashes that had police closing highways all over northern Alberta.
Just before 1p.m., police were sent to the crash between a minivan and an SUV on Highway 44, about two kilometres outside of Villeneuve.
Two people — the driver of the van and a passenger of the SUV — died in the crash.
Two others in the SUV were taken for treatment, but their injuries are not known.
Road conditions may have been a factor in the crash.
Earlier Sunday, RCMP closed down a section of Highway 881, north of Lac La Biche, due to a "serious motor vehicle collision."
They warn drivers that highways all over the county are covered with snow and have patches of black ice, and police say travel in the area is not recommended.
A collision also closed down Highway 63, 30 kilometres north of Wandering River.
It's not clear yet if anyone was injured in those crashes.
