Two former Strathcona County mayors will likely run against each other in the next provincial election.

Former mayor Cathy Olesen is the Progressive Conservative MLA for the Sherwood Park riding.

Linda Osinchuk, the woman who beat Olesen in the 2010 mayoral race, is now the riding’s Wildrose candidate. She lost the mayor’s chair to Roxanne Carr in last fall’s municipal election.

Olesen said the race has already started.

“She's campaigning already,” she said. “She's at all my events so the nomination is on, the election is on, absolutely.”

For her part, Osinchuk makes no apologies for trying to win support.

“It's not jumping the gun too early. I think it's prudent,” she said. “Who knows when the writ will be dropped?”

Both Osinchuk and Olesen say voters in Sherwood Park should consider their records as mayor when determining who be the best MLA.
