RCMP are investigating after two dogs were shot with pellet guns in a rural area southwest of Stony Plain.
The body of one small dog was found in a ditch near Hasse Lake on Wednesday. The dog had a circular wound on its neck, said RCMP Cpl. Colette Zazulak.
"Though we can’t say 100 per cent [the pellet shot is] what caused its death, there’s no reason to ever be shooting a dog with a pellet gun," she said.
Only 90 minutes later, RCMP received a second call about another dog being shot a few kilometres from where the first dog was found.
The second dog, a border collie cross, appeared to be largely unfazed by the circular wound to its back, said Zazulak.
RCMP do not yet have any suspects in the shootings. They have asked that anyone with information come forward.
In the meantime, Zazulak is urging residents in the area to keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles and to be aware of their pets' location at all times.
