A driver for Edmonton's disabled adult transit service (DATS) has been charged with impaired driving after he was found passed out behind the wheel Thursday afternoon in the city's northeast, police said.

Dispatchers became concerned after they could not contact the driver, and used the bus's GPS system to track it down at a strip mall at 40 Street and Heritage Road just after 4 p.m.

Police say they were alerted after ambulance crews determined the man was not suffering from a medical condition.

The 49-year-old driver also faces a charge of failing to provide a breath sample.
