A blow out led to an intense fire that ripped through a coil tubing truck in central Alberta.

The driver noticed the fire after a tire blew before pulling over on Highway 20 north of Rimbey on Wednesday at about 6:30 p.m.

"A very hot fire but not extremely large," said Rimbey fire chief John Weisgerber.

Nobody was hurt in the fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was consuming tires and hydraulic fluids in the truck, Weisgerber said.

The eight volunteer firefighters had the flames out in less than an hour.

"We just kind of get organized and start to cool the unit down and work your way in," Weisgerber said. "As it cools down you can actually get in and put the fire out."

The rig was heavily damaged, but not a complete write off, he said.
