A 19-year-old female was sexually assaulted by man who broke into her northeast Edmonton home last Friday, police said Monday.

The teen was sleeping when she was assaulted by a stranger. The man fled after a family member who heard a disturbance entered the room.

Police were called to the home around 8:30 a.m. They used the canine unit to search the neighbourhood but were unable to find the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid-twenties, of medium height and build. He has short light brown hair and blue or green eyes. Some property was also taken from the residence, police say.
