$1M cellphone fraud leads to charges

Two men are facing charges in connection to a scam that Edmonton police believe cost a cellphone company $1 million.
Police were called to a complaint about a fraud-in-progress at a southside mall at 5 p.m., Saturday where they arrested two men in the parking lot.
Police believe the men had acquired $1 million in high-end cellphones, including the iPHONE 5, Samsung Galaxy Note II and the Blackberry Z10 from a mobile phone provider at outlets across Alberta and British Columbia using a fake corporate account.
The suspects were then selling the phones online to unwary customers.
A 35-year-old man with no fixed address and a 29-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., face charges of fraud and uttering forged documents.
