A 20-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 11 years in the shooting death of a man in south Edmonton 2½ years ago.
Clinton Mahoney, 20, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing Jesse James in 2010. (CBC)Clinton Mahoney was nine days short of his 18th birthday when he lured drug dealer Jesse James into a trap in an apartment parking lot on Saddleback Road one Saturday afternoon in September 2010.
Mahoney and an accomplice led James to believe they were buying drugs from him, but when they got into James's car, Mahoney held the victim down while his partner shot him in the head. Then they robbed him.
Judge Janet Franklin said Mahoney "showed no abhorrence, alarm, remorse or appreciation of the terrible consequences of his actions."
The prospects for Mahoney's rehabilitation are poor right now and he poses a high risk for future violence, Franklin said.
She then sentenced Mahoney, who showed no emotion, as an adult on a manslaughter charge.
The sentence was much closer to the Crown prosecutor's recommendation of a 12-year jail sentence. Mahoney's lawyer had argued for a lighter sentence of between four and eight years.
Mahoney will get credit for the two years he has already spent in custody.
