The Alberta legislature resumed on Tuesday with intense questioning by the opposition about the province’s finances.

Despite the province's heated economy, the government is facing a multi-billion dollar deficit and the prospect of spending cuts in Thursday's budget.

Premier Alison Redford is also facing new polls that show her popularity is dropping and that Albertans don’t trust her government as much as they did during last spring’s election.

"From my perspective I think that Albertans did put their trust in us last year,” Redford said as she headed into the legislature on Tuesday.

“These are challenging times and I think we'll make the choices that reflect their priorities."
