The city of Edmonton has received thousands of complaints about icy sidewalks.
From October to January, 7,750 complaints were lodged with the city. Numbers are still being tabulated but officials estimate another 2,950 complaints were received in February.
The situation makes it difficult for people with disabilities to get around the city.
Brian Laird lost both his arms and his left leg in an electrical accident years ago. He says an icy sidewalk can take away his mobility.
“My leg seems to fall off and I'm stuck and not able to get back up again until somebody comes along and gives me the assistance of getting me back up and putting my leg back on,” he said.
Laird is urging people to clear off their sidewalks to make it safer for people with disabilities.
