Three people, including a 14-year-old boy, have died in two separate crashes this weekend — both involving tractor trailers.
A man in his thirties died in a collision on Anthony Henday Drive Saturday morning. Edmonton police are at the scene of the accident.
The crash happened at about 5 a.m. when a tractor trailer hit a pick-up truck, police said. It appears the truck was stopped at the time of the crash and hit from behind by the tractor trailer.
Witnesses say it was a Sobey's truck.
Police found the man's body in the vehicle, said Staff Sgt. Barry Maron. The car was travelling southbound on Anthony Henday Drive, just south of 87 Avenue, he said.
Road conditions at the time of the crash were clear, and police are investigating the accident. Alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash, said police.
Southbound lanes on Anthony Henday Drive are closed between 87 Avenue and Whitemud Drive. Police said the lanes are expected to remain closed until 4 p.m.
Highway 63 crash kills man, boy
In another accident, a 61-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were killed Friday night after the car they were travelling in crashed into two tractor trailers on Highway 63.
It happened about 65 km north of Boyle, Alta., where the highway is not twinned at about 7:30 p.m.
RCMP are investigating the accident.
The man and boy were travelling south in car when it collided with two northbound tractor trailers.
The driver of one of the tractor trailers was taken to a local hospital.
The highway was closed for several hours Friday night but has since been reopened.
