Alberta's premier continues to play down speculation that the government may bring in a provincial sales tax.

Alison Redford threw cold water on the idea during a media conference Thursday morning.

"Gosh my goodness. Today is what? Thursday? Did I say it yesterday? Did I say it on Tuesday? Did I say it on Friday? We are not introducing a provincial sales tax period. I'll say it again tomorrow if you like."

At the economic summit in Calgary earlier this month, a number of economists said they would support the move.

They believe it would be a more predictable source of cash for the province rather than relying on resource revenue.

The 2013 budget comes down in two weeks, on Mar. 7.

The province's deficit for this year could be as high as $4 billion.
