Edmonton police are turning to the public for help in the killing of a 22-year-old man in the Rosslyn neighbourhood one year ago.
Police released this photo of Welid Meskel on the anniversary of his death. (EPS)Welid Meskel was found shot to death in a back alley near 134th Avenue and 101st Street two blocks from his family's house in the middle of the night on February 19, 2012.
Police have hit a roadblock with the investigation, said Staff Sgt. David Christoffel.
Although police believe the shooting was a targeted attack, they won't say if they think it was related to drugs or gangs.
"I can't out of respect to the family," Christoffel said. "We have several theories, but we don't know for certain.
We do believe that it wasn't a random act simply because of the location this took place and the time of the day."
Court records reveal Meskel had a criminal record which included drug-related offences.
