Southeast LRT bridge design to go before council

A design has been recommended for the bridge that will take the southeast LRT line across the North Saskatchewan River into downtown Edmonton.
The recommendation was made by the LRT governance board on Tuesday after the public weighed in on eight different designs
Nat Alampi, program manager for the southeast to west LRT, said public discussions became polarized.
“Fifty per cent wanted a very simple, understated structure and the other 50 per cent did want something a little grander, more iconic,” he said.
Alampi added that the chosen design “does strike a balance between those competing themes in that it is somewhat of a signature structure but its the smallest of the signature structures.”
The bridge will replace the Cloverdale pedestrian bridge just east of the Shaw Conference Centre.
The design will go before council on Feb. 20th.
