Police arrest men wanted in violent home invasions

Police have arrested two men wanted in two violent home invasions on the Buffalo Lake Metis Nation on the weekend.
“The citizens of Buffalo Lake and throughout Alberta can sleep easier tonight knowing that these suspects are now behind bars,” said Sgt. Kevin McGillivray, detachment commander of Boyle RCMP in a news release.
One man was arrested Monday night on the Heart Lake First Nation about 70 kilometres northeast of Lac La Biche; the other was arrested the following day in Edmonton.
The two men — aged 20 and 41 — face a number of charges including uttering threats, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.
In the first assault, RCMP say two men repeatedly stabbed an 79-year-old man after kicking down the door of a home on the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement near Boyle.
They also locked two other people in a separate room.
After trying to steal the man’s car, they attacked him again, breaking his nose and elbow.
The man, who was known to the accused, remains in hospital.
The second attack occurred a 70-year-old woman let two men into her home to use her phone.
RCMP said the men assaulted her and stole her SUV.
