The disappearance of a Lethbridge man is now being investigated as a public mischief case.

Lethbridge police say Matthew Robillard, who was reported missing by his family last week, was not the victim of a crime.

Authorities were alerted to the 25-year-old father's disappearance after not being seen since Thursday morning when he left for work at a bank in Picture Butte, Alta.

His Honda Civic was found abandoned in Calgary in a northeast industrial park.

Hundreds of people searched for Robillard across southern Alberta, even using private planes and a helicopter.

Police found Robillard in a northeast Calgary hotel just before 3:30 a.m. MT Saturday with injuries.

Officials now say "he left of his own volition and took deliberate steps to cast suspicion on his disappearance."

Police won't comment on his motives, but say his family was not complicit in his actions.

"Reports that a window in Robillard’s vehicle had been smashed, and that he had been beaten up, are not associated to any criminal offence perpetrated against him and police are not seeking any other subjects," said Lethbridge police in a release.
