A long-time Spruce Grove, Alta., RCMP officer is facing fraud charges after allegedly using corporate credit cards to buy personal items.
The 45-year-old sergeant is accused of using the cards on two occasions to buy helmets and snowmobile boots two years ago, according to information filed with the courts.
RCMP Insp. Gary Graham called the fraud charges frustrating and disappointing.
"Frustrating in the sense that he did have some personal relationships in the detachment," he said. "It's frustrating because he is a senior manager in the operations here. And disappointing because there's also the public relationship with the RCMP."
The officer, who has 22 years experience, was suspended with pay when the criminal charges were laid three weeks ago.
He makes his first court appearance in Stony Plain, west of Edmonton, Wednesday.
