A 68-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car as she crossed a busy road in St. Albert, Alta., in a motorized wheelchair-type scooter.
The woman was crossing Bellerose Drive against the light at the entrance to the Inglewood Town Centre at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
A large truck in the inside lane stopped for the woman but a 65-year-old woman driving in the outside lane was unable to see the scooter because of the truck.
The victim was taken to Sturgeon Hospital, before being airlifted by air ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
She was transferred again to the Grey Nuns Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police do not believe alcohol, speed, weather and road conditions are factors in the collision.
No charges have been laid.
