A tragic end for a 29-year-old man from Slave Lake, Alta., just hours after attending a work Christmas party last week

The man was dropped off at his home at 2 a.m. Saturday after drinking a large amount of alcohol, said RCMP.

He was found by a friend about 18 hours later dead in his backyard.

Police believe he died of exposure as the temperature was - 21 C that night.

This death was the second in Slave Lake last weekend from overdrinking, said police.

A man died from head injuries after he fell down a flight of stairs on Friday.

"The frustrating thing is that these deaths could have been prevented," said Staff Sgt. Roberta McKale.

"The spirit of the season is to create positive warm memories, not painful ones of grief and loss."

Police are not releasing names.
