EPS officer stomped on teen's head, hearing told

An Edmonton police officer accused of stomping on a teenager’s head after a car chase four years ago will testify at his own disciplinary hearing when it continues in the new year.
EPS Constable Glenn Thursby is facing one count of unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority.
The car chase started after RCMP noticed a vehicle had rolled through a stop sign in Vegreville. The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop for RCMP, continuing along Highway 16.
Thursby and other EPS officers got involved as the vehicle neared Edmonton. Eventually, a spike strip was laid across the road, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The inquiry heard that a teenaged passenger was taken into custody,
RCMP Constable Melissa Lee testified Thursday that, while the boy was lying on his stomach in handcuffs, Thursby lifted his foot up and stomped on the teenager’s head twice.
The boy’s mother later filed a complaint with police.
Friday was the last day before the hearing was adjourned for the holidays.
Thursby is scheduled to give his version of events when it resumes in January.
