A 17-hour debate that kept Alberta MLAs in the legislature all night finally ended in the middle of the day on Wednesday.

Wildrose leader Danielle Smith blamed the Tories for the long sitting.

"The public need to understand that we have a government that does not take this process seriously," she said.

Opposition parties want more debate on changes they hope to make to proposed legislation on energy, land use and whistleblower protection.

But Wildrose house leader Rob Anderson says the Redford government wants to ram the bills through instead.

"The people that we represent deserve to be heard and enough with the bullying already," he said. "It's got to stop somewhere so if we have to draw a line in the sand and fight for that, we're going to.

"We're willing to go all the way to Thursday if that's what it takes."

Progressive Conservative house leader Dave Hancock said the Wildrose MLA's are grandstanding.

"The Wildrose is only interested in playing politics and are not trying to improve any of the proposed pieces of legislation", he said.
