The Alberta government is introducing legislation that will allow the chief electoral officer to reveal the identities of individuals or organizations found making illegal political donations.

Last year, an ongoing CBC News investigation uncovered numerous illegal donations to the Alberta Progressive Conservative party.

Chief electoral officer Brian Fjeldheim investigated dozens of cases and issued administrative fines in 37 of them, as of July 9th.

However, he claimed that the current legislation prohibited him from releasing the outcome of the investigations including the identities of the offending parties.

Justice Minister Jonathan Denis will table the Election Accountability Amendment Act on Tuesday afternoon.
