A Fort Saskatchewan man faces the charges of impaired driving causing death in a rollover that killed the passenger in his truck on Highway 63 Saturday.

Redwater RCMP were called to a crash near Newbrook Saturday afternoon after the welding truck rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof and starting on fire.

The 43-year-old passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 20, was arrested. RCMP say his blood alcohol levels registered as 0.23 and 0.21 -- almost three times the legal limit.

He has been charged with impaired driving causing death, operating a motor vehicle over 80 mg causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

He has been released on bail.

It was the second crash emergency crews had to deal with on the notorious highway Saturday.

Shortly before noon, Boyle RCMP were called out to a rollover approximately 45 km north of Wandering River.

There they found the driver, 68, dead at the scene. Police believe he was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from the vehicle as it rolled.
