A Court of Queen's Bench judge will rule Friday on whether an Edmonton man should be sent to the United States to face terrorism charges.

Sayfildin Tahir Sharif, 40, is accused of playing a role in a 2009 suicide bombing in Iraq that killed five American soldiers.

Sharif is a Canadian citizen, so Justice Adam Germain has been hearing arguments on whether there's enough evidence to extradite him to the United States.

If the judge rules in favour of extradition, the final decision lies with the federal Justice Minister Rob Nicholson.

Nicholson's decision can also be appealed.

Sharif, who is also known as Faruq Khalil Muhammad 'Isa or Tahir Sharif Sayfildin, has been in custody since he was arrested at his apartment in Edmonton in January 2011.

An ethnic Kurd born in Iraq, Sharif came to Canada in 1993, living in Toronto briefly before moving to Edmonton.
