The City of Edmonton and residents flooded out during severe summer storms are getting bailed out by the province.

Up to $32 million is committed to Edmonton for damage suffered in the July 12th storm, while another $3 million is set aside for municipalities in the capital region for damage incurred in storms between July 14 and 18.

"The funding is aimed at covering those homeowners who have suffered uninsurable losses," said Chris Ward, manager of the city's drainage services branch.

"The city will be setting up application centres with the province where citizens can go to apply to the province for their uninsurable losses."

The province said most of the money will cover repairs to city infrastructure, the cost of emergency response and cleanup, but some will go to homeowners to cover uninsured losses.

A total of $58 million is set aside for storm damage across the province.

• City of Calgary - up to $9.4 million for storms June 5-6

• North Central Alberta (includes Whitecourt, Barrhead County, Lac Ste. Anne County and Woodlands County) - up to $5 million for storms July 23-31
• Special Areas (includes Special Areas 2, 3 and 4,Youngstown and Consort) - up to $8.6 million for storms June 26-30

The province is setting up registration centres for those who qualify for assistance.

About 1,270 households may qualify for help, said the province.

More than 1,700 Edmonton homes flooded during the July storms, a third of those in Millwoods.
