Police in Bristol, England say the death of a 22-year-old student from Alberta is not being treated as suspicious.

Police say they have preliminary results from an autopsy, but say they need more time to determine cause of death.

Garrett Elsey of Sherwood Park, Alta., had only been in the U.K. a few hours when police in Bristol found his body at a recycling facility in nearby Avonmouth on Thursday morning, according to his uncle, Brent Elsey.

Elsey had recently completed a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Ottawa's Carleton University and was to begin a master's degree in international security in Bristol.

Elsey arrived in Bristol Wednesday afternoon, checked into his university residence and texted his family he had arrived safely.

Elsey then went out with a friend for the evening, but he never made it back to his residence, reported the BBC.

Police believe he ended up in a trash bin, before his body was discovered at the recycling facility.

Police have examined security video footage and have spoken to witnesses, the reports said.

A memorial will be held Thursday afternoon in Sherwood Park. A funeral will be held in Ottawa at a later date.
