Worker drowns at Fort McMurray water treatment plant

A 32-year-old Sherwood Park man has drowned while working on a water treatment plant near Fort McMurray.
The man's body was found shortly before 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at the facility on Silin Forest Road near Highway 63, which is under construction, said RCMP.
The man had been considered missing, before his body was discovered submerged under water inside one of the buildings.
Although foul play is not suspected at this time, the police investigation continues, as does the Occupational Health and Safety investigation.
The exact cause of death is not known at this time, however given the circumstances, drowning is suspected, said police.
“I was extremely saddened to learn of this tragic event,” said Mayor Melissa Blake in a press release. “On behalf of the municipality, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to family and friends who have been affected."
