Parents of starved Alberta girl can attend funeral

The parents accused of beating and starving their two-year-old girl will be allowed to attend her funeral Saturday, an Edmonton judge has ruled.
Arrangements are being made for the girl who died Thursday night after her ventilator was removed. The girl, who can only be identified as "M", died hours after the Supreme Court of Canada denied a motion to keep her on life support.
Her parents, who also cannot be named, will attend the funeral under guard and will not be allowed contact with one another.
They are being held separately in custody while awaiting charges.
Paramedics were called to the family's home in May where they found the child with a head injury and in cardiac arrest.
Both the girl and her twin sister were severely malnourished. The second girl is recovering.
The parents face charges of aggravated assault, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessities of life.
Police say more charges could be laid after the results of a toxicology report is completed, which could take a few weeks.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
