Albertans are paying their respects to the late former Premier Peter Lougheed by signing books of condolences both at the legislature in Edmonton beginning Monday and online.
Lougheed, 84, died Thursday evening.
The Alberta government announced Friday afternoon that he will lie in state in the rotunda of the legislature in Edmonton from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. MT Monday Sept. 17, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 18.
For those not able to visit locations where books of condolence are available, an online tribute page has been created.
“Giving Albertans across the province an opportunity to express their condolences and share their memories is important,” said Nikki Booth, with the premier’s office. “And obviously we’re working hard to ensure that people can go to a variety of centres across the province to be able to do that.”
