Edmonton police are investigating the city's latest homicide after two people were stabbed downtown early Saturday morning.

Police say a man and a woman were stabbed in a parking lot near 95A Street and Jasper Avenue.

Both were taken to hospital.

The man, 50, died of his injuries and the woman, 33, is recovering from non- life threatening wounds.

Investigators are now looking for a male suspect.

Police spokesman Scott Pattison says the area has seen a lot of violence in the past and that they are considering a facility to offer 24-hour services to the city's homeless.

“Having a facility with the capacity to house and offer a number of services to the homeless and other individuals in this area is a strategy that would certainly benefit Edmonton’s inner-city and its residents, ” Pattison said in a release.
