The man accused of driving drunk and killing four Grande Prairie High School football players was granted permission Thursday to drive again.
Brenden Holubowich, left, faces 11 charges, including four counts of impaired driving causing death and one count of failing to remain at the scene. (CBC)Brenden Holubowich, facing 16 charges including four counts of impaired driving causing death, was banned from driving after his arrest last October as part of his bail conditions.
The case is headed to trial following a preliminary hearing this week.
Holubowich asked the court for the change, said Crown prosecutor Jason Neustaeter.
"He lives in a town outside of Grande Prairie and works in Grande Prairie and so he requested permission," he said.
"I, on behalf of the Crown, opposed that removal of that condition, but the judge ordered that that condition be removed," Neustaeter said.
Family members of the football players expressed displeasure that Holubowich is allowed to drive again, he told CBC News.
The case goes back to court on Oct. 9, when a trial date may be set.
