Edmonton police are investigating a shooting inside a north end bar early Friday morning that left two men with bullet wounds.

"it was really full, there were hundreds (of patrons), quite a crowded place," said Det. Dan Duiker. "It was fortunate only two people were hit."

Police were called to a home near 30th Street and 133A Avenue at 2 a.m. where they found an injured man lying in the front yard.

The 21-year-old was shot in the lower leg.

Shortly after, police received a report of a second injured man in a parking lot of the Chrome Lounge at 134th Avenue and Victoria Trail.

The 18-year-old was also shot in the leg.

Police have since determined both men were shot inside the bar during a fight between patrons.

'Person of interest' identified

Police have identified a "person of interest," said Duiker.

The City of Edmonton Public Safety Compliance Team is also looking into the incident.

The team and the city agreed to suspend the bar's licence for a 10-day period.

"This suspension is going to assist with a sort of cooling-off period to ensure that no one else who was in attendance at the bar, patrons or staff and or anyone in the community are injured or worse," said Sgt. Nicole Chapdelaine.

"We don't want anyone to go back and try and finish the job or do anything like that."

Chapedelaine said it is not the first time the team has been to the bar.

"We've worked for a number of years at Chrome Lounge ," she said. "It's been a location of concern for some time.

"Admittedly, we tried to increase their business practices and work with management and ownership as much as possible to ensure public safety."

Inexperienced managers along with a problem clientele can contribute to a bar coming to the attention of the team, said Chapdelaine.

"Quite often what we see if there's poor business practices in managers, and staff aren't holding people accountable for their actions inside a bar, it just continually gets worse," she said.
