A fire in an Oliver apartment building led the city to close 116th Street between Jasper and 102nd Avenues on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were called around 2:15 p.m. to the Albany highrise on 116th Street where smoke could be seen billowing out of the windows of an 8th floor apartment.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 20 minutes, said acting District Chief Van Imschoot.

"The fire actually was contained very quickly by the crews because of the quick response time," he said.

No one was in the apartment at the time and there were no confirmed injuries.

Imschoot expects residents should be back in their suites later today. The road has since reopened.
