Five vehicles were seized and an equal number of licenses were suspended under Alberta's new impaired driving legislation since it came into effect on Sunday.

Under the new rules, drivers who are found to have a blood alcohol level of more than .08 will lose their license and be subject to vehicle seizures with times that vary depending on whether it is a first, second or third offence.

A total of 15 impaired driving charges were laid over the weekend.

RCMP, Alberta sheriffs and other law enforcement officials also charged drivers with 60 other alcohol-related violations and nineteen 24-hour suspensions for alcohol or drug use.
