Police have taken a 28-year-old man into custody after a standoff at a south Edmonton apartment Tuesday morning.

Officers also removed a 10-month-old child from the apartment complex in the Royal Gardens neighbourhood.

Police responded to a domestic dispute at 12:30 a.m. near 43rd Avenue and 122nd Street.

A 25-year-old woman left the suite unharmed, but the man barricaded himself in the suite with the child.

The man surrendered to police just after 7 a.m. The child was found unharmed.

A second man who was staying in the suite was taken into custody but is being treated as a witness.

A man now faces a number of charges including hostage-taking, assault, uttering threats and possession of a dangerous weapon.
