A controversial concert featuring dubstep artist Skrillex that was scheduled for St. Albert next month has been cancelled.
The Grammy Award-winning artist is headlining the Full Flex Express tour, which was supposed to play in Kinsmen Park July 20th.
But St. Albert officials say organizers booked the show, and started selling tickets, before they had the necessary permits from the city.
“When the city took a good look at what was involved and the number of people that were expected, they quickly decided that the city of St. Albert's just not prepared to deal with the kind of projected numbers that there was going to be in the city,” said St. Albert Councillor Cathy Heron.
“So we denied any permit.”
Heron says the administration was worried about getting the police and ambulance services in place in time for the concert.
“We might have 8 guys on duty at a time, and that’s not enough to deal with 10,000, most likely young, kids,” Heron said.
“The potential for disaster was just too big... They didn’t give us a lot of time.”
The concert organizer, The Union Ltd, did not respond to requests for comment.
As of Sunday afternoon, tickets were still being sold for the event through Ticketmaster.
