Alberta foster care supervisor Daniel Stoesz enters the Lac La Biche courthouse in December 2011. (Scott Fralick/CBC)An Alberta foster care supervisor was sentenced to six months in jail Wednesday on one charge of possessing child pornography.
Daniel Quiring Stoesz, 63, of Lac La Biche was originally charged in December 2011 with possessing and making available child pornography.
At the time Stoesz was a supervisor for support workers who dealt with foster parents in northeast Alberta.
Stoesz was also a foster parent himself.
Police began investigating after receiving information from the FBI in Connecticut about someone distributing child pornography over the internet from a home in Lac La Biche.
The Crown said it believes Stoesz was not selling images, but rather sharing them as part of a file-sharing network.
Alberta's Internet Child Exploitation [ICE] unit said there was nothing to indicate that any of the children Stoesz may have encountered through his professional capacity are involved.
Stoesz will be on probation for two years once his sentence is completed.
His name will also be placed on the national sex offender registry and he must surrender a sample of DNA for the national DNA data bank.
