Police have ended a stand-off Monday more than 18½ hours after a man barricaded himself inside a Riverbend home.
Police entered the home at Haliburton Crescent and Haddow Drive using an armoured vehicle at about 1:30 p.m. after losing contact with the man.
They found the 46-year-old man in the garage and took him into custody.
The man was alone, but thought to be armed, police said.
Residents living nearby had been waiting to get access to their homes.
Melissa Brown was barbecuing with her family in the backyard yesterday to celebrate father's day.
"That's when we saw the police come with the rifles," she said.
Police secured the area, telling the closest neighbours to stay inside, and head to their basements.
Others, who were away at the time, spoke of their frustration at not being allowed to return to their homes.
