An Edmonton soldier has been charged after child pornography was allegedly found on his laptop computer in Afghanistan.

The man was charged with possession and accessing child pornography this week.

The soldier was made to return to Edmonton following the discovery of the materials last June.

"The Canadian Forces find the possession of child pornography to be completely antithetical to the military ethos and takes every allegation of this nature very seriously,” Captain Karina Holder said, speaking for the Canadian Forces Military Police.

“The Canadian Forces Military Police conduct thorough investigations into every allegation of this nature.”

The soldier has been with the military for about a decade and at the Canadian Forces Base Edmonton since 2004.

His case will be heard in a military court.
