A former Edmonton bus driver was fined $2,000 dollars and handed a 90-day licence suspension for hitting and killing a pedestrian in April 2011.
Bruce Perrin, 52, pleaded guilty earlier this week to failure to yield to a pedestrian, a violation under the Traffic Safety Act.
Ailish O'Connor, 28, was in a crosswalk near the courthouse on 97th Street around 7 a.m. on April 20, 2011 when she was struck by a bus making a left hand turn.
O'Connor, an employee of the city of Edmonton, was on her way to work.
The court was told earlier that Perrin has suffered from depression and insomnia. He no longer works as a bus driver.
While the judge pointed to factors that favour Perrin — the guilty plea, his co-operation with the investigation — she said a momentary lapse in attention caused a death.
Four others on the bus saw O'Connor crossing the street, but Perrin didn't, she added.
The judge told all those involved that the case was a tragedy and hoped that they would be able to find peace.
