Justice Sterling Sanderman denied Vader's application for bail Wednesday.

"It's really an enormous sense of relief," said the couple's son Bret McCann.

"He's a known flight risk," McCann said. "He's thumbed his nose at the legal system for years now, so we're happy he's staying behind bars."

Vader, who has been in jail on various charges since July 2010, is scheduled to appear in court in Barrhead next month. He is accused of uttering a forged document.

The stolen property charges will be dealt with later in Edmonton.

The McCanns disappeared July 3, 2010 while leaving on a road trip to British Columbia.

Their burned motorhome was found in a campground outside Edson.
