Edmonton Police have found a stolen SUV belonging to the mother of a Grande Prairie high school football player badly hurt in a car crash last fall.

Desiree Judd said she received a call from police on Wednesday night, the day after her 2006 midnight-blue Dodge Durango went missing from a parkade in Edmonton's Oliver neighbourhood.

"The front driver's side window was smashed out and it didn't appear that there was a whole lot of other damage," she said.

The vehicle was filled with keepsakes belonging to her son Zach including a signed Edmonton Eskimo game ball, an MVP trophy, a Warriors team hoodie and new high-top sneakers. Some of those items were still missing, Judd said.

"What good is having something that has no sentimental value to you?" she asked. "Those articles meant a lot to Zachary. He's been through so much and they meant so much to him. To anybody else, they're just an item."

Judd, 16, survived a crash that killed four of his Warrior teammates near Grande Prairie on Oct. 22, 2011, when they were hit by an alleged drunk driver.

Judd broke a rib, punctured his lung, fractured his skull and sustained a brain injury in the crash. He is now an outpatient at the Glenrose Hospital in Edmonton, where he learned to walk, run, jump and feed himself again.

Judd spoke to the media about the theft earlier on Wednesday. As Judd spoke to reporters, a representative from the Eskimos turned up with a new football for her son.
