A 33-year-old Conklin man is facing weapons charges and one count of assaulting a police officer after he was shot by police in the northern Alberta community last month.

The man was released from custody and will appear in court on Mar. 7.

RCMP were called to a home in the town 170 kilometres south of Fort McMurray after gunshots were heard.

Police said they shot a man after he confronted them with a rifle.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates incidents of serious injury or death involving a police officer, is looking into the shooting.
