A passenger who was on a bus that rolled near Redwater, Alta. on Friday is looking for the man who pulled her from the wreckage.
The crash sent 31 passengers to hospital Friday. (CBC)Coreen Vroom was sitting on the driver's side when the Red Arrow bus enroute to Edmonton from Fort McMurray rolled on Highway 28 about 10 kilometres west of Redwater.
"The screeches from everybody, it was unbelievable," she said. "I thought I was going to meet my maker."
Once bus stopped moving, Vroom found that she couldn't move. But a young man sitting next to her came to her rescue. He calmed her down, helped her stand and then guided her off the bus.
"If he wasn't there, I would never have gotten up by myself," Vroom said. "There was no way I could put weight on my legs to get up myself."
Vroom cracked four ribs, dislocated her shoulder and required four stitches for a cut in her head.
"I was in so much pain from that arm," she said. "He just stepped right in and got me up on my feet."
The crash sent 31 people to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Two remain in hospital.
Vroom said the woman sitting in front of her lost a little finger on one hand. She heard that another person lost an arm.
The driver managed to get out with what looked to be cuts to his face, she said.
"It was amazing nobody was killed, just amazing," Vroom said.
Vroom said after her rescuer got her off the bus, he went back to help others.
"He definitely was an angel," she said.
Now she'd like to meet her rescuer and give him a hug.
"I'd like to track him down and thank him, let him know I appreciate what he done for me."
He wasn't the only hero that afternoon, she said, recalling another young man with "blood running down his face, jacket tore right off his shoulders" who helped others.
Vroom had no idea why the bus tipped, although the driver told passengers earlier in the trip that the sun was in his eyes, she said.
Investigators said it will take at least a month before they can determine whether the crash was caused by mechanical or driver error.
