A Stettler mother was in court Monday to see the man charged in the crash that killed her daughter early Saturday morning.
Koralea Boettger, 17, was a passenger in a truck that struck a stand of trees after veering off a gravel road about five kilometres northwest of Stettler. The teen died at the scene.
Janel Boettger attended court in Red Deer on Monday to see the man charged in the crash that killed her daughter. (CBC)The 19-year-old driver of the truck is charged with operating a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failing to supply a blood sample. RCMP believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash
"I don't know where to start. It's minute by minute," Koralea's mother Janel Boettger said outside the Red Deer courthouse. "I don't know how you bury a child."
Koralea was a senior in high school and dreamed of becoming a hairstylist one day. Her classmates remembered her vibrant personality on Monday by wearing bright-coloured clothes to school.
"She was full of life," her mother said as she broke down in tears. "She was the person that if you were down, she would say something that was so stupid that would make you laugh."
Janel Boettger vows she will be in the courtroom every time the accused makes an appearance.
The funeral for her daughter is on Friday.
