Edmonton police laid charges Friday in the shooting death of Michael Wayne Tunnicliffe, who was gunned down in July 2011.

Craig Michael Nagy, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder.

Tunnicliffe, 26, who was known to police, was found in an alley in northeast Edmonton near 45th Street and 157th Avenue on July 24, according to police.

Tunnicliffe later died in hospital, bringing Edmonton's 2011 homicide total to 30.

"With no new deaths this year, additional resources for the Homicide Section, and the tireless efforts of our detectives, we've been able to make progress on last year's homicide cases,” said Staff Sgt. Bill Clark, in a news release.
