Evidence from a man who claimed he was phoned by the accused three times after the fatal stabbing of a Sherwood Park teenager was disputed in court on Tuesday.

Michael Scott was a witness at the trial of Justin Faltermeier, who is on trial for manslaughter in the July 2009 death of 18-year-old Blaine McNally at a party in July 2009.

Scott testified he dropped Faltermeier off at a party in Sherwood Park that night. Scott was home in bed when he received a call from Faltermeier around 2 a.m. He didn't pick up the call because he had to get up early for work.

The phone rang again and Scott picked up this time. Faltermeier sounded panicked and told him that he needed a ride home from the party because he was afraid he would do something he would regret, Scott told the court.

On the third call, Scott said Faltermeier told him he stabbed someone, but Scott dismissed that statement as a prank and went back to sleep.

Under cross-examination, defence lawyer Peter Royal introduced phone records that show it was Scott who called Faltermeier the last two times. Royal accused Scott of lying and suggested the court can't rely on his testimony. Scott agreed.

On Monday, a witness testified that McNally was killed when Faltermeier threw a knife at him.

Medical examiner Dr. Bernard Bannach told the court that he's never seen anyone killed in this manner.
