Edmonton doctor will not testify in sex trial

Former Edmonton doctor Javier Mauricio Castillo Cortes will not take the stand in his own defence at his sexual assault trial.
Javier Mauricio Castillo Cortes, a doctor, will not testify in his sexual assault trial. (CBC)Castillo Cortes is on trial for 10 sex-related charges involving two boys in 2008 and 2009.
The boys, who were not patients, were aged seven and eight at the time.
After a week of testimony from the boys, their mothers and Castillo Cortes's ex-wife, the prosecution rested its case Friday morning.
After speaking privately with Castillo Cortes, defence lawyer Alex Pringle told Justice Marsha Erb, "We will not be calling evidence."
Closing arguments will be heard Monday morning.
Castillo Cortes was a doctor training to be a pediatric neurologist at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton when he was charged.
