A new pedway is now under construction that will cross 114th St., connecting the Health Sciences LRT station with the new Edmonton Clinic South and Edmonton Health Academy.
"[The] pedway will provide hospital visitors, staff, students and patients with a year-round climate-controlled environment, moving at their own pace and without having to cross 114th street at ground level," said Alberta Infrastructure spokesman Paul Michna.
"This is going to increase traffic safety and we're going to separate pedestrians and vehicles a little bit more."
The station will stay open throughout construction but some of the platform loading area is blocked by fencing, limiting access for riders.
Edmonton Transit plans to keep updating customers by putting up posters at the station.
"The contractor is going to maintain pedestrian access at both ends of the platform," said Patricia Dickson, a spokeswoman for Edmonton Transit.
"Customers will still be able to access the trains during the construction time."
Construction is expected to be completed by the fall.
