Police have charged a 24-year-old man with manslaughter in Edmonton's latest homicide.

At around 2:30 a.m. MT Saturday, police were called to an apartment in the west end in the area of 177 Street and 81 Avenue with a report of shots being fired.

There, police found 23-year-old Kyle Joy-Trussert lying on the floor of his shared apartment suite, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Joy-Trussert was rushed to hospital where he died shortly before 11:00 a.m. MT.

An autopsy to confirm the cause of death will be done Monday morning.

Police said his roommate was charged with manslaughter, a firearms-related offence and obstruction.

This is Edmonton's 36th homicide of 2011.
